Movie Night and BBQ 2022

After two long years, our CPLC was finally able to host their Annual Movie Night & BBQ - and what a turnout!

Members from 23 Division, 23 Division CPLC, community partners and residents from all throughout the neighbourhood came together on June 14th, 2022 to enjoy an evening of food, film and fun!

Before the pandemic, our CPLC hosted their annual event in the parking lot of 23 Division. However, due to safety and logistical concerns associated with the Finch West LRT construction, our CPLC had to pivot from their original plans and identify another suitable location for the large event.

Luckily, we were able to forge a partnership with the City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation (PFR) who allowed us use of their facility and space at Elmbank Community Centre for the Movie Night & BBQ. The partnership helped to facilitate a bigger and better event than ever before. We estimate a whopping turnout of 1,000 community members!

Our Neighbourhood Community Officers, along with our CPLC and youth volunteers, worked tireless over the hot grill and condiment station to serve the huge crowds.

Over the span of a few hours, we served over 600 hots dogs, 500 hamburgers, 1,000 samosas and 130 bags of popcorn to the hungry crowd.

The event couldn't be made possible without the extraordinary efforts of the City of Toronto PFR staff and volunteers. The evening was full of fun youth engagement activities, such as face painting, arts & crafts, parachute, obstacle course, jewelry making, DJ booth and cotton candy stand.

A big shout out to Martha Nguyen, Christilene Elie, Everett Cooper and Chris Mckenzie from Elmbank Community Centre for all of your hard work - it couldn't have been done without you!

We had several special guests attend: Engage416, TPS Talent Acquisition, Toronto Fire Services and the TPS Mounted Unit. A lot of useful information relevant to the community was shared, and the kids loved interacting with the fire truck and horses!

It all couldn't have been made possible without the collaborative efforts of our 23 Division officers, CPLC, Toronto PFR, volunteers and community partners.

Thank you to everyone who participated and attended.

Until next year!

A special thank you to our community partners and sponsors
